One of the first retail projects undertaken by the firm, the Louboutin boutique is located in Mumbai's Horniman Circle heritage district. We were brought on board as Local Architect for the project, to help execute the vision of Design Architect 212box, a New York-based firm which has worked on a number of the brand's stores worldwide.

Housed in a heritage building, the site was in rather a dilapidated state initially, and one of the challenges faced prior to starting the fitout was structural restoration. With construction underway, 212box and Mr. Louboutin himself expressed interest in our furniture line and wanted to incorporate our signature hand-embroidered wood into the store's interiors. We decided to use the same as a cladding system for one of the walls; working with 212box, we devised a system using both concave and convex hand-cut Burma teak tiles. A basic pattern was embroidered onto a module of sixteen wood tiles and then repeated across the wall using zardozi hand embroidery. Louboutin’s logo was then hand-embroidered onto the pattern using French knots, serving as a subtle backdrop within the main interior of its flagship Indian store.

It took a total of 12,875 man-hours to complete the wall.
