This 6500-square-foot retail space in Indiranagar, Bangalore is spread over two levels and home to three brands -- designer label Bhaane, VegNonVeg sports footwear and the Blue Tokai café.

With three distinctive enterprises under one roof, we sought a style that would lend itself to the identities of each and still have them blend seamlessly into a singular entity. In addition, we had to incorporate a certain flexibility that would allow for the hosting of seasonal pop-ups and events, an integral part of the Bhaane culture, leaving very few fixed elements as part of the interior.

With both labels offering casualwear catered to a younger clientele, from a design perspective we looked to various street sports and the outdoors for inspiration. The overall material palate for the store is shades of grey terrazzo, birch ply and green onyx; two large curved glass panels on the ground floor allow for a segregation of the two brands, their spatial layout referencing the three-point arcs of a basketball court. During events these movable panels open up, allowing for an expansion into one massive space.

Subtle differentiations were made in the shelving systems, with Bhaane's featuring predominantly brass and those for VegNonVeg in black powder-coated mild steel. The footwear displays focus on a skatepark theme with undulating forms in birch ply and a corner of Bhaane's section holds an acai bar that goes by the name onetwo.bhaane.

At the entrance on Level One, the Blue Tokai enjoys a flood of natural light with a floor-to-ceiling glass façade. Curved terrazzo walls demarcate the café from the retail section; spread over half the floor, it features several coffee machines and a long bar-style seating plan, so customers seeking a break from retail therapy can observe the art of coffee-making.
